Australians have a love-hate relationship with cockatoos (well, some just plainly don’t like them at all). These magnificent, surprisingly large birds are cheeky, funny, intelligent and playful – but at the same time, they can be very destructive, and their screams are extremely loud (with decibel levels similar to a jackhammer).

Living in a small town in the middle of a National Park, I could see how cockatoos interact with each other when they have huge spaces and large trees available, rather than in suburbia, where the birds shorten their ever-growing beaks on roof tiles and garden furniture…
